Accommodation and Planning

Our Planning Department compiles, analyses and projects the District's demographics so that we can better meet the needs of our students. Planners advise on the need for new schools; whether we are working with the City and developers to secure school sites in new communities or to advise on the timing of and size of new school that have to be built. Planners also examine trends in the District so that we can use resources in the most efficient manner; giving advice on student projections and programming trends.

Facility Partnership Policy

Based on Ministry of Education guidelines and according to our “Facility Partnerships” policy (P.131.FAC), the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board seeks to promote the concept of and provide a framework for sharing facility space between the District and other partners. Facility partnerships allow for maximizing the use of public facilities, reducing operating costs, strengthening the role of schools in the community, and providing a place for programs and facilitating the coordination of, and improved access to, services for students and the wider community.

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board will post to the board website information regarding any intention to build new schools or undertake significant renovations and the availability of space in existing schools to provide an opportunity for entities that provide services and programs for children, their families and the broader community to express interest in sharing facilities with the school board.

For more information please view the Ministry of Education's Facility Partnership Guidelines

Each year Ottawa area school boards are required to hold a public meeting to make local agencies, as well as the public, aware of the facility partnership process for potential tenants sharing space in schools.  Due to the state of emergency in the Province, Boards will not be holding a public meeting this year.

The purpose of these meetings was to allow the public or potential partners to identify themselves for consideration as possible tenants in future “facility partnership” arrangements, either in existing schools where surplus space may be available, or for joint use arrangements within planned future schools, or in vacant / closed schools, and as part of future school closure processes.

Interested parties are requested to read the Ministry of Education Community Planning and Partnerships Guideline as per below and review our policies,
