Student Achievement
Individual student achievement is summarized on a student’s report card for both curriculum expectations and learning skills. District-wide student achievement is measured in several ways, but one key measure is the data from EQAO assessments. The Education Quality and Accountability Office testing is done annually across Ontario for students in grades 3 and 6 in reading, writing and math; grade 9 in math; and grade 10 in literacy(OSSLT).
The OCDSB prepares an Annual Student Achievement Report (ASAR) each fall. The ASAR looks at EQAO data, as well a credit accumulation data, cohort analysis and more. Read our most recent ASAR.
EQAO Results
Results from 2017-2018 provincial assessments (EQAO) show that our students outperformed their provincial counterparts in all three assessment areas in both the primary and junior levels, in grade 9 academic mathematics, and on the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test.
OCDSB student performance improved in primary reading, writing, and mathematics, in junior writing, and in grade 9 applied and academic level mathematics. Our commitment to meeting the unique needs of our special education students (excluding gifted) is evidenced by the narrowing of the achievement gap between these students and all students in five of six assessment areas in grades 3 and 6 and in Grade 9 applied and academic math.
Overall, our students are highly successful, with pass rates staying the same or increasing in18 of the 22 compulsory courses in grades 9 and 10 (English, Core French, Geography, History, Math, Science, Civics, and Careers). For students pursuing French language courses through Grade 12, the Diplôme d’études en langue française (DELF) provides students with an opportunity to earn a certificate that reflects their proficiency in the language across four competencies. In 2017-2018, 87% of students who were enrolled in a grade 12 French language course completed the DELF, with 94% being successful.
The 2012-2017 cohort graduation rate for the OCDSB was 87% compared to the provincial rate of 86%.
