OECD Study on Social and Emotional Skills
Over the past three years, the OCDSB has been participating in an international study on the Development of Social and Emotional Skills organised by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development. The main portion of the study took place in the Fall of 2019, investigating the development of social and emotional skills of 10- and 15-year olds.
The skills included in this study closely align with our Exit Outcomes – the skills and characteristics we aim to develop in every student to foster student success beyond the classroom.
The study assessed students’ social and emotional skills using direct assessments of students, and indirect assessment through parents and teacher questionnaires. The study also gathered a range of information on the student’s family, school, and community environments through teachers, parents, school principals, and the students themselves.
Testing at OCDSB schools ended on November 22nd, 2019. There were approximately 150 schools across 4 boards that participated in this stage of the study.
