Elementary International & Indigenous Languages Program

The focus of the International and Indigenous Languages Elementary Program is to offer children an opportunity to develop and/or maintain the ability to listen, speak and write a new language or the language of the home or heritage. In so doing the children will benefit by:

  • Enhancing the concept of self and heritage

  • Improving communication with parents/guardians/grandparents/family members

  • Strengthening cognitive development through the knowledge of an additional language

  • Learning and experiencing a new language and culture

  • Building a bridge between the Canadian and heritage cultures.

In addition to various weekend language programs, OCDSB offers different International Languages at 8 elementary schools as After School Programs. This is an excellent opportunity for our learners to learn a new language and the culture of that language. Previous exposure to the language is not necessary.

Registration Information:

We are working out the details for online registration. An online registration form will be available in July or August. Please monitor this page for updates. 

For non-OCDSB students: As per the Ontario Ministry of Education guidelines, the following documents MUST be brought at the time of onsite registration on Saturday, September 12, 2020:

  • Proof of Address (e.g., Current Property Tax Bill; Current Utility Bill; Home Phone/Cable/Internet Bill. Please note, Driver’s License is not acceptable)
  • Proof of Citizenship and Status in Canada
    • Canadian Citizen (Birth Certificate, Passport, Baptismal Certificate)
    • Permanent Resident (Permanent Resident Card, Stage One Approval letter, Equivalent Documentation from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) confirming approval in principle)
    • Refugee Status: Documentation from IRCC confirming status, Consideration of eligibility (Convention refugee)
    • Diplomat Status / Minister’s Permit
    • Student Visa (Study Permit)
    • Visitor Visa (Visitor Record)
  • Copy of last year day school Report Card - OEN 

Fee-paying students: Out-of-province students or those who are on a Student or Visitor Visa must pay a $180.00 fee at the time of registration to attend a language class.
