Valuing Voices: OCDSB releases results of identity-based data survey

The OCDSB has published the results of the student survey "Valuing Voices - Identity Matters," conducted in Spring 2024. The survey shows the wide range of backgrounds and identities in our student body, which will help us better understand our students and school environments.

The survey received 47,153 valid responses, for an overall participation rate of 61% of students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. This is an increase of nearly 15% compared to our 2019-2020 student survey.

Highlights from the survey can be found in the following infographics:

  • Demographic data: Including information about language, Indigenous identity, Canadian identity, ethnicity, race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability and status in Canada.
  • School climate data: Including feedback about experiences with their school in areas related to engagement, safety, well-being and environment.

You can read the full report of the demographic results to explore the full range of responses to the identity-based questions.

The OCDSB will use the survey data, in combination with data from other sources such as achievement and suspension reports, to better support school safety, learning and student well-being. This data will help us to address structural racism and systemic barriers while designing programs and supports to address issues including bullying, mental health and student achievement.

School-level results are being shared with school principals to help them improve how they support students within their school community.

More information, including the survey questions, can be found on the OCDSB Valuing Voices webpage.
