Appropriate Use of Technology Policy Review

The school district has a policy about the appropriate use of technology.  The policy is rooted in the principles of good digital citizenship and outlines the standards and expectations for how students and staff use District technology, including networks, software, email, apps, devices, and infrastructure. This includes the use of personal devices on the District wifi.  The policy is supported by a comprehensive procedure. Two parts of the policy that the community might be most familiar with are the Appropriate Use of Technology form and the Media Permission Form

The Policy  P.100.IT  was last updated in February 2012. With so many changes in technology and the increased use of technology in the classroom, remote learning and working and business automation, the policy and the companion procedure (PR.622.IT)  need to be updated.

Between June and October, the OCDSB will be consulting interested stakeholders on the policy. 

  • The first step is to share the policy and some guiding questions and invite feedback from interested individuals or groups via email in June. 
  • In the fall, there will be focus groups for student and staff users, which will allow for more direct discussion about the user experience.  We will also be holding focus groups with our advisory committee members and inviting school councils to provide feedback.  
  • Once the consultation is complete, the policy revisions will be finalized and brought to the Board for discussion and approval in January.
