Employment Preparation for Childcare Assistants

Two sessions each year:

- Prepare to find childcare Assistant jobs in childcare centres or to run your own home daycare
- Learn about child development, behaviour guidance and safety issues
- Learn to plan and lead songs and activities
- Participate in a job placement (100 hours)
- Complete First Aid and CPR certification
- Complete Food Handler certification

Math Upgrading for High School, Employment or Everyday Life

Two sessions each year:
September to January / January to June
Tuesday - Thursday, 12:30pm - 3:30pm

- Review and improve basic math skills that you will need to know before starting high school math: (Addition (+), Subtraction (-), Multiplication (x), Division (÷) Decimals (0.325), Percent (25%)
- Review and improve basic math needed for everyday life (money, banking, shopping, and paying bills), and employment (handling money, measurement, schedules, and pay stubs)

PSW
Preparation & Healthcare Training Course
In class only

Two sessions each year:
September to January / January to June
Monday-Friday. 9:00am - 2:00pm
Location:
Continuing Education Centre, 440 Albert St.

- Complete certificates in Standard First Aid/CPR/AED, Food Handler, WHMIS
- Prepare to pass job interviews and PSW entry tests
- Study health care, anatomy, common diseases, and caring for older adults
- Learn communication and problem-solving strategies for working in the healthcare sector
- Enter Personal Support Worker or other college program
- Work as a Home Support Worker in the healthcare sector

Eligibility:
- Must be 19 years of age or older
- Must have strong oral communication (CLB 5+)
- Must have less than a grade 12 level of education (Canadian equivalent).
